General FAQs

What is the difference between renting and buying a movie?

To rent - you can watch the movie for 24 hours as often as you like on up to 4 registered devices. The 24-hour period starts after you first start to play the movie.
To buy - the movie is yours to watch as many times as you like on up to 4 registered devices and will not expire. We keep a copy for you on our servers, but you may also choose to download a copy to your PC.

Why are some films not available to buy and rent?

Not all films have both rental and ownership rights for digital distribution via the Internet.

Can I watch a preview before purchasing?
You can locate each film trailer simply by clicking on the film title of your choice and then selecting the trailer option. Please note that the quality of the trailer is much lower than the actual movie, which comes in DVD quality.

What is the cost of a movie?
Our pricing is in line with the market prices for DVD rental and sale, and we permanently strive to give you the best price possible by keeping our operational costs low and by working closely with our content partners. But we are always happy to have your feedback on our pricing, so please let us know through our
customer support. We value your input and will try to accommodate your suggestions as far as possible.

What is the quality like?
Our movies are in true 576p quality, which is the same as a DVD and looks great even on big-screen TVs. We are passionate about movies and we have worked hard to find the optimal combination of excellent picture quality and minimal bandwidth requirements, so you can receive the movies without freezes and interruptions (bear in mind, it's all coming over the open Internet).

What is the aspect ratio?
Typically 16:9, with some exceptions, which are 4:3. This depends on the sources.

How old do I need to be?
Our film age rating is shown on each movie information page.

Do I need a separate PIN to access over-18 content?

Yes, all over-18 content is protected by a separate PIN which you can manage at http://www.acetrax.com/. This functionality will be available soon. Thus at the moment no 18-rated content is available

Technical FAQs

What are the system requirements?
You will need: Windows 7, Vista or XP / 512MB Ram / Microsoft Silverlight (download here - make sure you have the necessary rights on your computer to make this installation) / Internet Explorer 7 or above, Safari or Firefox / screen resolution 1024 x 768 or higher / 16-bit sound card or higher / at least 2GB of free disk space.

Does it also work on a Mac?

Yes, Acetrax Movies also works on Macs, using the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in (download here) to play the movies directly in the browser.

What Internet line speed do I require?
We recommend having 2.5 Mbps as a minimum. To verify that you have enough bandwidth,
test here. If your bandwidth is too low, please contact your ISP and request an increase.

My movie keeps freezing or breaking up when I play it
Your connection to our server, which is via the open Internet, might be disturbed during peak hours. This is unfortunately out of our control, but usually happens very seldom.

I'm having problems playing my film

Please make sure that you have Microsoft Silverlight installed (download here).

Do I need to pay special attention to anything when watching my film on a computer?

Since playing high-quality movies on a computer eats quite a lot of system power, we recommend closing all other applications (e.g. Outlook, Skype, virus scanners) so that the movie plays smoothly and you can enjoy it undisturbed.

Can I play my movies through my TV?
Yes, Acetrax Movies allows you to play your movies on up to 4 registered devices, and you can either register one of the new Internet-capable TVs, which have Acetrax Movies built in, or use a range of compatible set-top boxes. For further information, please see
here.

Currently available with Acetrax Movies built in:

Panasonic (TVs)
- VT20 series
- V20 series
- G20 series
- D28 series
- D25 series

VuNow (set-top box)
- VN1000HDg Hi-Def POD
- VN1000HDn Hi-Def POD

We permanently add further devices to that list and will update it regularly.

Do I need to register my PC?
It is not necessary to register your PC, laptop or Mac - computers are automatically recognised when entering the Acetrax Movies webshop. Only devices like TVs and set-top boxes need extra registration with your Acetrax account.

Payment FAQs

I see a sufficient amount in my account balance, but I still can't buy a movie
Please note that the balance from each voucher and from top-up credit are not combinable. Each voucher and the top-up credit balance can only be used individually to pay for a purchase.
However, the overall account balance shows the total of all vouchers and top-up credit.

Do I need a credit card to use the Acetrax.com shop?
Yes. All transactions (except those with vouchers) are made via credit/debit card payment.

Which credit cards do you accept?

All major credit and debit cards are accepted. Please go to http://www.clickandbuy.com/ and http://www.paypal.com/ to find out more.

Why are there 2 payment methods? What is the difference between ClickandBuy and PayPal?
We offer two payment providers purely for your convenience. Both methods provide a 100% secure method of payment. If you do not have an existing account with either provider, simply pick which one you would prefer to use.
If you don't want to open an account with one of these providers, you can pay directly with your credit card via the PayPal option, without registering with PayPal.

How do I change my credit card info?
Please go to PayPal or ClickandBuy, log into your account and edit your payment details.

Will there be other payment methods?

Yes, we will offer further payment methods, e.g. through our call centre (from around July 2010).
